Abbotsford is the 5th largest municipality in British Columbia and home 128,940 citizens, as of the 2006 Census. Abbotsford is served by its own municipal police force, Abbotsford Police Department, and composite fire department, Abbotsford Fire-Rescue. Emergency health services are provided to Abbotsford by the British Columbia Ambulance Service.
After having used their VHF radio system for nearly fifteen years, Abbotsford Police have officially transitioned to the E-Comm WARS radio system. All traffic is now ProVoice and cannot be monitored at this time. Their operations may be received on the new Abbotsford site, Maple Ridge, and Langley WARS sites.

All police departments and R.C.M.P. detachments currently on WARS also have access to a set of police mutual aid channels. These channels allow for interoperablity when working in another jurisdiction or with another agency such as Fire or Ambulance.
Dispatch is based out of the main police station at 2838 Justice Way Abbotsford, B.C. V2T 3P5 and consists of a staff of 2 dispatchers, Dispatch and Information channels, and ? call takers. The APD use the province-wide PRIME computer system for incident dispatch and records management.
The APD operate with the standard PRIME radio call signs assuring interoperability between agencies throughout the province of British Columbia. Unlike other police departments and RCMP detachments on PRIME, the APD do not utilize prefix numbers to indicate zones or sections. The APD runs 5 shifts throughout a day.

Abbotsford Fire-Rescue Services (AFRS) is a composite department comprised of 7 halls, 3 of which are composite and 4 of which are fully paid-on-call. In these halls, AFRS operates 4 career engines, E1, E8, E2 and E6, as well as 9 paid-on-call engines, 2 paid-on-call ladder trucks, 4 paid-on-call tenders and 2 paid-on-call utility vehicles.

AFRS is dispatched by the Fraser Valley Regional Fire Dispatch (FVRFD) centre located in Chilliwack Fire Department firehall 1 in Chilliwack, BC. FVRFD employs 4 full time and 5 part time dispatchers. FVRFD utilizes the Fire Department Management (FDM) Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for all the departments within the Fraser Valley Regional District for which it dispatches.

AFRS, and other departments within the FVRD, recently began using mobile CAD terminals in some of their apparatus. These are used to perform status changes without need for radio transmissions. They also give responding crews access to notes, incident history, maps and building information on the call to which they are responding.
The British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) operates 2 stations within the City of Abbotsford. The stations in Abbotsford are dispatched on Channel 5 VHF frequency from BCAS's Region 2 dispatch centre in Vancouver. Channel 5 encompasses all areas in BCAS Region 2 which are not using the ECOMM WARS; all areas outside of Metro Vancouver. There are numerous different repeater locations.

Station 202, located at 2000 Abbotsford Way Abbotsford, BC, operates 2 24/7 staffed BLS cars, 202A1 and 202A2, and one 11 hour dayshift/7 days/week car, 202B.

Abbotsford's extremely aged Matsqui-South Abbotsford (MSA) Hospital located at 2179 McCallum Rd recently closed permanently. It's replacement is the brand new Abbotsford Regional Hospital (ARH) located at 32900 Marshall Rd. ARH features a landing pad for Air Ambulances and a cancer centre.
