Initial Fire Report
A useful form to have handy when listening to the forest service communications is the Initial Fire Report. This is what is used to describe a fire and uses specific letters and numbers. Without the form it can be quite difficult to understand anything about the fire.
FBP Fuel Types
Often the fuel type will be described in the IFR using the Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System. The codes are described below.
Coniferous
C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7
Deciduous

Mixedwood
M1 M2 M3 M4

The Field guide to the canadian forest fire behaviour prediction (FBP) system explains this system in detail. http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/pubs/docs/Frh/Frh012.htm
Incident Numbers
Each fire in the province is assigned a unique incident number that is commonly used to refer to each fire. The incident number consists of one letter followed by five numbers. The letter indicates the fire centre that the fire is located in. The first number indicates the zone the fire is located in. The remaining four letters indicate the number of the fire, which increase from 0001 as fires are discovered. As an example N20716 indicates a fire in the South East Fire Centre, Cranbrook Zone, fire number 0716.
